NOVA Writers Club: Cultural Sensitivity – Building Diverse Characters

2021 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm UTC+0

For the club’s October meeting, one of our founding members, Austin Camacho, is joining us to talk about writing diverse characters.  Below is a blurb on the session and Austin’s bio.  The meeting link will be emailed to members with the October newsletter.

We live in a diverse world, so you want your fictional characters to reflect that diversity. But how do you know you’re getting it right when you create people who are not like you? In this session, Austin S. Camacho will show you how to add diversity to your fictional world while being sensitive to the real people who will read your work.

Austin S. Camacho is the author of seven novels about Washington DC-based private eye Hannibal Jones, five in the Stark and O’Brien international adventure- thriller series, and the detective novel, Beyond Blue. His short stories have been
featured in several anthologies including Dying in a Winter Wonderland – an Independent Mystery Booksellers Association Top Ten Bestseller for 2008. He is featured in the Edgar nominated African American Mystery Writers: A Historical
and Thematic Study by Frankie Y. Bailey. Camacho is also editorial director for Intrigue Publishing, a Maryland small press.

This is an online program. Contact NOVA Writers to get the Zoom link.
